lesson 8 (10/03/08)
Hi everyone….!!!
Here is the end of the lessons….
Today was our last day of english lectures…
We spent the two hours reading many papers from the new scientist or the chemistry world dealing with how to convert Carbon Dioxyde (C02) into petrol. The way is very complex using solar energy to split the CO2 molecules into CO (carbon monoxyde) and then the scientist combine this CO with Hydrogen (H) to obtain methanol or petrol.
This process will not be able to everybody before 20 years but this is a big step for the research and the environnement.
At the end, our teacher gave us two papers she wrote for physicsworld.com about the scientists and the language. She explains how scientists like to use a very formal language insted of using the every-day words. That’s one of the reasons which can explain the problem french people have with the usual language that english people use.
I personnaly had this problem during the year i spent in Scotland. The students use a common language which we never learnt in classroom and the accent is also another barrier to understand the people.
Even if this session was the last one i’ll be back tommorow to tell you about the posters the other student groups made. Oh yeah i didn’t explain this…. : the other english groups had to make posters about different physical subjects and… No, i’ll tell you all of this tommorow.
See ya!!
